Miller Pattison were recently asked to work with architectural designer and TV presenter, Charlie Luxton, on his home-building project. Luxton – whose TV credits include DIY SOS and Homes By The Sea – combines his TV work with running his own architectural design business and is currently building his own property. Miller Pattison were pleased to provide the expertise of their team for his cavity wall insulation needs.
In the build, there were a number of timber I-Joists fixed to external concrete block wall (themselves resting on polystyrene insulation). A breathable MDF panel was fixed to the joists, thus creating a fully enclosed unit, into which Springvale Ecobead Platinum cavity wall insulation was injected. The carbon-activated polystyrene beads, bonded with a special adhesive to fill every area of the cavity, guaranteeing a complete fill and eliminating thermal bypass. In order to fill the 240mm cavity, the installer – from the Bedworth branch – was required to drill from the exterior through 12mm ply in sections. The estimated U value is around 0.13 W/m²K.
Business Development Manager (South), Karen Simpson and Dave Thornley from the Bedworth branch were on site earlier this month to carry out the Ecobead installation, along with a member of the Springvale team. Karen remarked, “we were delighted to be involved in this project, which really demonstrates the insulation benefits that can be achieved with a bead system. We worked with the intricate construction to ensure the installation was completed to the specification required and enjoyed our day on site with Charlie. We wish him every success with the rest of his exciting project.”
